The other side of horizon

India, as potrayed by the people sitting in ac cars with 2-3 cars full of bodyguards may say this or think about it but my experience with India as a whole does not really matches. To start with the things, let me introduce my self. I am living in Noida, a city in Uttar Pradesh and very near to the capital of India, Delhi. It is supposed to show the reflection of our shining India. I got my car stolen from the front of my office gate, well this is actually not the worse part , in fact this would sound nothing as compared to what happened afterward. I was a bit dumbstruck because i did not imagine this to happen not at least from the front of my office. I went to police chowki and reported the theft, first response that i got from then was 'Because it was insured that's why you did not take care of it', second thing 'If you have parked it outside then it ought to be stolen'. It reminds me of a controversy some days back when Sheela dixit said that women of metros are becoming "adventurous" and they are roaming at night, this was her response to the rape of an Indian women. This is actually the mentality of most of the cops and people in India. Why can't our system be so healthy and our cops can be so efficient that women in India especially in Delhi can roam after 9 pm ? Why can't we people park our cars , outside the office , not actually conspiring to get an insurance claim but in hope that law and order is so efficient that we need not worry ? I mean at least I am living in so called 'NCR' region which is supposedly the best of India. What would you expect from other regions??
Anyways it is been 3 days since my car incident. I am still struggling to get a F.I.R lodged. Cops here ask you to write a complain in HINDI, not that I am against Hindi but what if I was from South India ?? These all are there tricks to make you give up in front of them and give them bribes. My relatives are on some good posts so I am being helped by some people in police department. But still only help that i am getting from that is , cops are at least talking to me not cussing me or asking me 'bribes' which actually they think is their birthright BECAUSE they are HARDLY WORKING for searching my car and preventing crime.

  2. hi,I think you got the point which I was making yesterday.this blog raises such an important and relevant issue without being overtly judgmental.
Now coming to the topic, I think the internet has provided an entirely novel and effective medium to mobilise opinions on such an important topic.though it is unlikely to yield the desired result in the near future but at least it is an earnest beginning to an issue which is relevant to each of us.

  3. Thanks rakesh, you are really very correct I guess in most of the countries internet is the only solid way to convey your message to mass public. I was being asked why have you bashed indian system and cops so much. Well let me clarify this was just to fill people with the knowledge which actually they all have but still we act carelessly. This blog is just to remind me as well as other people to be extra careful in India.
(Ps: I was being informed that police did take action. They came to office and punctured the tyres of some cars standing there. Once again you see the effort was not to capture the thieves, it was for the people to suffer more)
If you want to survive in India or you want your child to do the same, i guess best will be to teach them karate at least :)

  4. Your opinion makes me think and wonder more about ouselves, rather than the police system. The question which comes in my mind is what role do we play in the country. We all proudly say that we are the citzens of the nation with the richest culture and value system. And we are the so called educated class who have been mere silent spectators of every crime, injustice, inhumanity being done on innocent and people who are vulnerable by some anti-social and politically minded people for their lust for power and money.
I believe in the principles of equality and justice but i don't see it anywhere. They simply don't apply in the real world.

I hope that the small initiatives we are taking now to talk about these issues and restablish our faith grow with time and help us see and face the problem not with silent submissivity but with eloquent assertiveness.
People say what is the benefit to take a small step as it will yield no result, but why not take a step, howsovever small rather than wasting our lives being self-centered, submissive mortals.

  5. Hello friends, So finally 3rd day after 3 hrs of struggle, I got my FIR registered. Well it seems writing one full page is real pain in the ass for the people there. They told me 'FIR likhne main dare lagti hai' Well actually the plan was to get some bribe from me and then write the FIR, although there was some pressure from the higher officials. I went there on 5pm and got my FIR after 8pm. I don't know what i should have felt but from the way they talk with us and harass us I promised myself that I will try that whatever task will be assigned to me, I will surely do it with all my heart and will put all the effort in that work. I dont' know should i mourn on this thing or should I neglect this incident and move on all I know is that they have given me a reason to do my work my 100 percent.
